Joe Saward began his career in motor racing while still a student, reporting on European Formula 3 races in the summer of 1983. He travelled from race to race, living in a tent. He joined Autosport 14 months later and initially worked in the world of touring car racing.

He travelled constantly and was soon writing the celebrated "Globetrotter" column. His wide-ranging experience resulted in the commission to write "The World Atlas of Motor Racing". In 1988 he was given a free hand to report on whatever he wanted and, as a result was able to experience a wide variety of different events, including the Paris-Dakar Rally, the Indianapolis 500, the Le Mans 24 Hours, the Bathurst 1000, and NASCAR at Daytona. That year he became Grand Prix Editor of Autosport and in the years that followed not only reported on all the races, but also pioneered the use of electronic communication in motor racing. This led to a decision in 1992 to settle in France, where he began to explore the new technology with the award-winning Business of Motorsport e-newsletter, which was launched in 1994.

This was followed by www.grandprix.com, which is now one of the leading F1 websites. His ability to find the news and to think outside the F1 box, plus an in-depth knowledge of the sport, makes the site one of the most popular in F1.

Joe has not missed a Grand Prix since the summer of 1988 and these days travels to races from his home in Paris.

In 2007 he was named Renault UK Author of the Year by the Guild of Motoring Writers for his book "The Grand Prix Saboteurs", the untold story of Grand Prix drivers who became British secret agents during World War II.
